Keen on Keane

imagined by: James Mathias

First of all, what’s the deal with all the entertainment posts lately, Jim? “Well, uh… I guess, I have a lot to say about it, I’m sorry. I’ll get some illustrations up soon.”

Keane, is truly keen. Not since the Beatles have I been so drawn to a band from hearing only one song. With the Beatles it was “In My Life” from Rubber Soul, from Keane it was “Is It Any Wonder” from Under The Iron Sea. The song just resonates with me in a way I can’t fully describe in words or even pictures.

When I purchased the album, basing my decision to purchase on the one and only song I’d heard, I had zero doubt I would enjoy the rest of the album as well. Oh how right I was. (you thought I was going to say wrong didn’t you?)

The entire album—not unlike Rubber Soul—is amazing. They’ve definitely got it. I haven’t purchased their first album Hopes and Fears but it now reserves a cozy spot on my Amazon wish list.

Stand out songs for me are; the hopeful and mellow ballad “Atlantic”, the driving, destined to be rock classic “Crystal Ball” and the beautiful sorrowful “Try Again”. But, again, I truly enjoy the entire album.

I would highly recommend Under The Iron Sea to anyone, it transverses genre and it’s year of release. Under The Iron Sea is 100% guaranteed to be a timeless album, like Rubber Soul and Darkside of the Moon before it.

By the way: I would have linked the above song titles to either, the song pages on the respective web-sites or to a lyrics database page. Unfortunately, both the above bands web-sites utilize the very user friendly(/sarcasm) method of url query-string hiding, which makes it nigh impossible to supply direct links to internal pages. And please, don’t get me started on the 500 pixels of vertical space on all lyrics databases that fill the top of the page, I’m not going to link anyone to those nightmares. If you know of a great lyrics database with good coverage and very few ads, I’d love to hear about it!

You know the score, keep it clean and on topic. “Spammers” & “trolls” are decimated on sight.

I love Keane. If you liked Under the Iron Sea, you should get Hopes and Fears as well. Their song “Somewhere Only We Know” is amazing. smile
