Body For Life 3: Month 2 of 3

imagined by: James Mathias

On the 8th week of my 3rd 12 week cycle following Body for Life, and I feel like I’m failing, slowly, but failure non the less. In the last 4 weeks I only managed to lose 5.2 more pounds. Which is a drop from the previous four weeks when I lost around 9 pounds, which was a low number for me as well, and disappointing.

The only change from the last eight weeks compared to the first twenty-four weeks is that I’ve been taking real free days. Meaning I’ve eaten a crappy the last eight Sundays, not terrible—like before the life change—but apparently enough to affect my weight loss overall.

I feel terrible about this, but at the same time it’s a good wake-up call for me to refocus, I’m just not one of those people that can have real free days, I need to stick with my eating habits on Sundays just as strictly as Monday through Saturday. So That’s exactly what I will be doing from today forward, refocusing on my goals, on my eating and continuing my daily exercise, with which I haven’t faltered.

My overall weight loss now stands at 114.70, which is not by any means a failure, although my goal was to be down 140 pounds by now, but with the poor showing the last two weigh-ins, I didn’t make my goal, just another reason to refocus.

I’m not going to beat myself up over this, just use it as a reminder that I need to stay the course and focus on my goals 100% of the time and not allow myself to lapse, even on Sundays.

My weight training has been going really well, and I’ve made some very good progress in the area of strength, muscle firmness and definition. I’m quite happy with the direction my body shape and size is going.

I’m still losing inches, overall I’ve lost fifteen inches off my waist. I gained a half an inch on my biceps (good gain), and lost 2 more inches on my overall width.

I’m feeling great, lots of energy, looking much better in my clothes. I now fit, comfortably, in a 3x, where I was wearing 5x at the beginning. I fit in a 2x, but it’s a little tight for me around the stomach, so comfortable-ness wise, I’ll stick to the 3x until I lose a bit more in the old midsection.

I’m generally really happy with my overall progress, and can see the finish line and plan on making it there before my 33rd birthday in July. Now that I’ve refocused on my goals I should start putting the big numbers back up.

Wish me luck and thanks again for all the great support and help I’ve received from everyone, it means a great deal.

You know the score, keep it clean and on topic. “Spammers” & “trolls” are decimated on sight.

I wouldn’t worry about the drop in your weight loss rate. You eventually get to a point where you plateau and losing weight becomes a bit more difficult. That last 15 to 20 pounds is usually the hardest to get rid of.

115 pounds in such a short time is just totally badass. You shouldn’t be disappointed with yourself in the least bit.

Wilhelm is correct James. It will slow down. Once your body plateaus, if you try to lose it fast, it will resort to burning muscle; which you don’t want.

Keep up the good work man. We’re routing for you.

James

You just have to keep going, it does straighten out so you lose less less and less until you lose none at all. The hard bit is losing the final weight to get down to your target weight, and then sustaining it. Congratulations for how well you’ve done so far, it’s brilliant.

Thanks guys, I know this all to be true, but it really helps to hear it being said, as opposed to telling yourself.

Sometimes when your doing something alone, you can start to trick yourself into believing whatever you need to to make things OK. But, when others echo your same feelings it makes it easier to wade through the suggestions and realize the truth.

I’m very blessed to have a online support system for my journey, it keeps me on track and moving forward.

5.2 pounds is definitely not a failure, I could be way off but I think that you’re expecting too much from yourself. I’m not saying that that is a bad thing but it’s a downer when your time has expired and you haven’t reached your goal. Doing a bit of math here, you planned on losing 25.4 more pounds by now and you’d like to lose more than 5.2 pounds per month. If you’re banking on losing that extra 25.4 pounds by July in addition to 5.2 pounds per month that’s 10.28 pounds per month for the next 5 months. From what I’ve read in the last couple of months losing 1-2 pounds per week is ideal for someone like yourself who has exercised regularly some time. You’re doing great, don’t let the numbers get you down and keep it up. smile

Thanks David. I have a ways to go before I’ll be the weight I want to ultimately be. I’d like to keep losing 12 pounds a month, like I was before, but you’re right 5.2 pounds is not failure, but it is also hard to swallow, when I have so much farther to go, but like I said I’m going to refocus and get back to the super strict eating habits of before.

Thanks for the pep talk, I appreciate it.

Hey I love your website and I’m glad I found it. It’s very inspirational, especially since I’ve returned to being a vegetarian. I will definitely visit often.
