Steal Ma.gnolia
imagined by: James Mathias
Earlier today, I read a post on Colin’s blog about the social bookmark sharing web-site Ma.gnolia. I’d heard of the site in the past, but I just wrote it off as another bookmarking site I didn’t need, I do after all have bookmarking functionality built into my browser.
After reading Colin’s post I went directly to Ma.gnolia and signed up. What can I say, he made it sound good.
Colin made me decide to try it, but the service itself makes me want to use it, which is what will keep me going back.
The only thing they’re lacking at this point—in my opinion—is the ability to load my saved Ma.gnolia bookmarks in a format similar to my in browser bookmark sidebar, allowing me to utilize my bookmarks in much the same way I am accustomed to, without having to visit Ma.gnolia and click through a list to find the bookmark I need.
This tiny addition would get me to drop my in browser bookmarks for a full on Ma.gnolia experience.
Aside from the above minor oversight, I think Ma.gnolia is a strong, attractive and beneficial service for all web surfers.
Go try it out for yourself and don’t forget to add me as a friend.

Thanks for the kind words, James, and welcome! We’ve heard quite a lot that we need to offer better client-side presence and are looking at a few options, including a browser extension. If you want to chip into the discussion of what a Ma.gnolia browser extension should do, there’s a discussion here that you might want to jump into. Welcome aboard!

Hi Todd,
No problem, I never have a problem sharing cool stuff with other folks, or saying nice things about nice… uh things?
Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it and I’ll check out the discussion as well.

How is Ma.gnolia better any than del.icio.us? Aside from the website thumbnails.

Well, from my point of view, delicious is hard to use, and kinda makes me sick to my stomach. Where as Ma.gnolia has me wanting to keep coming back to the actual site.
I feel the social aspects of Ma.gnolia are easier to utilize and enjoy then the similar features at delicious.
Overall it comes down to user experience. I signed up for delicious and used it for exactly 1 hour. I never went back, I had two bookmarks. With Ma.gnolia, I keep checking back to see what’s happening.
Ma.gnolia has a face I want to see, delicious is someone I want to hide from?
