Body For Life 4: Month 2 of 3
imagined by: James Mathias
As I finished my workout this morning—upper body weight training—I prepared myself for a weight gain, even though I look leaner and feel thinner, I just had a bad feeling, like I was about to hit my first major road block in this journey. It can’t go well forever, I need to hit some sort of plateau, right?
Fortunately, I was wrong. I didn’t lose as much weight as I would have liked, but I have to realize that after losing 130 pounds my body is going to slow down in weight loss, especially since it’s now going to begin trading fat for lean muscle. I lost 2 pounds over the last 4 weeks, which seems low, but it’s actually only about 2 pounds less than a healthy four week loss should be. And a loss is a loss, always.
Not to mention, I’m experiencing muscle mass gains and my muscles look and feel leaner and harder, which will attribute to the appearance of a low loss, when in fact visually I look much smaller than even four weeks ago.
I want to set a new goal for myself and see if I can hit it. I want to lose 12 pounds between today and the 3rd of June, this will put me at 300 pounds to start the summer. I think it can be done, if I just add an extra exercise session per day, in the afternoon. It’ll mean an extra shower, but it could also mean I meet my goal. 3 pounds a week for four weeks is quite achievable. So wish me luck.
I’ve been slacking on the weight motivation posts around here, and I apologize, I’ve just been very busy with work lately, and also sometimes I feel like I can’t write what needs to be written so it goes undone.
I hope that this finds you all well, I really appreciate the continued support from everyone.

Awesome, James! Remember a pound of lean, healthy muscle burns an extra 100 - 200 calories a day on it’s own.
So, the more lean muscle you gain, even though it weighs more than fat, you actually burn much more fat 24/7.
You probably already knew that, you health nut.
Good luck, buddy!

Keep it up, James. What you’ve accomplished so far is nothing short of remarkable.

Plateaus are more of a mental challenge than a physical one. You are still doing good when you are working out, even if you don’t see drastic change. If you do hit one, no biggie, just keep on keepin’ on with the good work.

I was actually looking at your head (up and to the left) and thinking how much weight you’ve lost compared to your Flickr stream. You’ve gotta feel good about how far you’ve come.

Make mental note to figure out when I’m responding to Ryan C. or Ryan A.
Yeah I definitely need to update the design to match my new face. Sometimes it’s crazy to look back, as I don’t really feel like I’ve lost that much, but then I see pics and it all comes rushing in.

I’ll sign mine Ryan C from now on to stop confusion.
